Keep up to date on what is happening La Grande and Union County, Oregon real estate!

As mid-March sunshine warms the tops of our heads and makes us squint a bit after a cloudy, dark winter, our thoughts should turn (even for just one weekend) to springtime home maintenance.
Now is the time to check your gutters. They are likely filled with leaves and other things from winter. Get a sturdy ladder out and give them a once over. Grab a bucket, gloves and a trowel and start digging out the gunk. A healthy flush with the garden hose will finish things off and keep the water flowing through the downspout - not down the facia board!
While you're looking at your gutters check to make sure the water is training away from your house to keep it out of the basement and crawl space.
From the ground take a look at the roof and make sure that you don't have any shingles that have made a break for it during a windstorm! If you do see any, call a qualified contractor to get them fixed! Don't know a contractor? Give us a call and we can recommend several for you.
Did you store firewood close to the house over the winter for easy access? Now is the time to move it away to deter termites (yes, we have termites in Eastern Oregon homes) and carpenter ants, as well as moisture trapped between the wood and house away!
Take a look at your outside faucets to see if there is any freeze damage. Better to know now rather than finding out when your lawn is thirsty!
A sunny day is the perfect time to cut back those dead grasses and plants from last fall and dispose of them. There are a couple of options for disposal depending on where you live in the county. If any of your plants have completely died out over the winter then now may be the time to visit one of our local greenhouses for some expert advise on what you should plant for longevity.
Finally - did you service your lawn equipment last year? If not now is the time to either do it yourself or call an expert- before the first cutting is ready!
If you need to find a local person to help you with any of these things we have a long list of experts! Just call and ask for Randy or Shawna - 541-963-1000 - we would be more than happy to help!
Now that your work is done - treat yourself to an ice cream cone at one of our local drive ins and enjoy the drive or enjoy a walk around the neighborhood! You can stop and visit with the folks hanging out in their yards enjoying the sun!
